Skiing
The skiing here is immense, forming part of Les Trois Vallées in the French Alps. Explore over 600km of perfectly groomed piste and fabulous expanses of powder across the resorts of Courchevel, Meribel, Val Thorens and Les Menuires. Set upon three main elevations, 1550, 1650 and 1850 the villages are named for their elevations in metres that step up the Courchevel Valley. There are 189 ski lifts, 1,932 hectares of groomed slopes and 24,711 acres of off-piste skiing. The season is long, the snow record excellent and for the many regular visitors there are always new runs and challenges to be discovered.
One ski pass is valid for all areas but a skier would truly need at least a month to ski everything the Trois Vallees has to offer !
1850 has excellent beginners slopes, easy cruising terrain for intermediate skiers and excellent challenges for the most advanced skier. Boarders are also well served by Courchevel, with a snowboard park, a half pipe and a boarder cross course.
If you wish to try something without skis then try the toboggan run. Unique in France, the sledging run is 2km long, with 300m of vertical and an average incline of 15%. The run departs 1850 and arrives in 1550. It is free of charge for those with valid ski passes. The run is floodlit from start to finish. Add to the excitement by tobogganing after dark !
To keep transfer times low, helicopters can be arranged to meet your flight in Chambery, Lyons or Geneva.
